The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the streets of Beijing. The city was alive with the hustle and bustle of daily life, but for Xiao Mei, the night held a different kind of energy. She had just moved into a newly renovated apartment, a quaint two-bedroom unit on the fifth floor of an old, dilapidated building.
